The elements are the same for both types of defamation (libel and slander), but there is an additional element for slander.
The general elements of defamation are:
The statement complained of is defamatory.
The statement referred to the claimant
The statement was published
The additional element for slander is that The claimant must suffer damage.
This is because, unlike libel, slander is not in permanent form, so the concrete way to prove it will be proof that the defamatory worse caused you some damage. See the case of Ibeanu v. Uba.
