The legal consequences of change of government by extra constitutional means is that such a government is Ipso facto illegal. This is mostly the case with military governments who take over power by extra constitutional means but later becomes legal through the promulgation of decrees which will necessarily have supremacy over the unsuspended provisions of the constitution. There is always a change in the legal order to the extent that instead of having the constitution remain supreme (as is the case with the Nigerian Constitution), a decree is promulgated that suspends the supremacy clause of the constitution and other provisions that will not allow for a smooth military government.
