OLABODE ABIMBOLA ADEGBEHINGBE, J.C.A. (Delivering the Lead Judgment): The Appellant was the 2nd Defendant in a charge filed before the High Court of Taraba State, sitting at its Jalingo Judicial Division, with serial number TRSJ/36C/2022. The 1st Defendant in the charge is a person named Umar Jatau (a. k. a. Mamud).
The case of the Respondent before the lower Court is that the Appellant, in company of the 1st Defendant, and some others at large, unlawfully agreed to and carried out the kidnap, for ransom, of a person known as Alh. Hamidu Usman Takanaba at a place known as Jalingo, Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba State, on 20/03/2022. Consequently, the two Defendants were arrested and charged before the lower Court.
In the charge, the Defendants were cited in the counts, as follows:
