TUR JCA (Delivering the Lead Judgment): The New Nigerian Bank Ltd. obtained judgment against the appellant in the High Court of Justice, Queen’s Bench Division, London, England in suit No.1988-N-No.1097 on 31 July 1991 in the sums of £21,088.00 (twenty-one thousand and eighty- eight pounds) and interest therein at the rate of 17% per annum from 12
July 1988 to the dated judgment in the sum of £10,698.15 (ten thousand, six hundred and ninety-eight pounds,fifteen pence) makinga totalof £31,786.15 (thirty-one thousand,seven hundred and eighty-sixpounds and fifteen pence) and costs.
The respondent’s solicitors applied by an ex parte application to the High Court of Justice, Kano, Kano State, presided over by Rano J., on 7 October 1994 for the judgment to be registered under the Foreign Judgment (Reciprocal Enforcement) Act,Cap. 132,Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990.
