MOHAMMED LAWAL GARBA, J.S.C. (Delivering the Leading Judgment): This appeal rose from the decision of the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division (court below) in Appeal No. CA/LAG/CR/988/2021 delivered on the 1st of July, 2022 by which the decision of the Federal High Court, sitting at Lagos (trial court) to discharge and acquit the appellant along with the 2nd and 3rd respondents, who were jointly charged, of the offences of money laundering and abetting money laundering contrary to the provisions of section 15(2) and of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (MLPA), was reversed.
The appellant and the 2nd respondent were found guilty of the offence of money laundering by the court below and the appellant along with the 3rd respondent was sentenced, pursuant to section 22(2) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (MLPA), to winding-up and forfeiture of all its property to the Federal Government.
