TINUADE AKOMOLAFE-WILSON, J.C.A. (Delivering the Leading Judgment): This is an appeal against the judgment of the High Court of Federal Capital Territory; Abuja delivered on 4th of April, 2012.
The respondent as plaintiff vide a writ of summons claimed against the appellants, jointly and severally as follows -
i. A DECLARATION by this Honourable Court that the defendant publication about the plaintiff at page 26 of the Leadership Newspaper of Tuesday, April 22, 2008 has libeled the plaintiff in every material particular and every means.
ii. The sum of N1 Billion (one billion Naira) against the defendants jointly and severally as General-Exemplary Damages for Libel and Mental distress.
iii. AN ORDER of this Honourable Court compelling the defendants to within 48 hours of the order publish conspicuously in the front pages of the Leadership Newspaper and two other national daily newspapers unreserved and unequivocal retractions to and apologies to the plaintiff for April 22, 2008 edition of …
