AKAAHS JCA (Delivering the Lead Judgment): By a letter dated 5 April 2001, the plaintiff was employed by the 1st defendant company as a maintenance roustabout in the junior staff group 1 and was put on a three months probationary period. His appointment was confirmed via a letter of confirmation dated 28 August 2001 but took effect from 10 August 2001. His appointment was however terminated on 14 December 2001. No reason was stated in the letter of termination.

Consequently, the plaintiff instituted suit No. HEK/36/2002 by writof summons filed on 21 February 2002 against two defendants and in paragraph 15 of the statement of claim he asked for the sum of N15,000,000.00 (fifteen million naira) as special and general damages against the defendants both jointly and severally as follows: Special Damages
