An Act to make better provision for the prevention of cruelty to animals; to control experiments on animals; and for matters incidental thereto and connected therewith

Part I – PRELIMINARY

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

2. Interpretation

In this Act, except where the context otherwise requires—"anaesthetic" does not include the substance known as urari or curare;"animal" means a living vertebrate animal including any mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian and fish;"authorized officer" means a person appointed as an authorized offer under section 36;"experiment" means any experiment performed on an animal and calculated to give pain, but does not include an operation;"licensee" means a person licensed under the provisions of section 16;"operation" means an…
