An Act of Parliament to make provision for the establishment of borstal institutions for youthful offenders and for the detention of youthful offenders therein, and for connected purposes.

Part I – PRELIMINARY

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Borstal Institutions Act.

2. Interpretation

In this Act, except where the context otherwise requires—“After-Care Committee” means a committee appointed under section 21 of this Act;“authorized officer” means a police officer, a prison officer or a probation officer;“Board of Visitors” means a board of visitors appointed under section 20 of this Act;“borstal institution” means a borstal institution established under section 3;“borstal order” means an order under section 6 or section 7 of this Act directing that a youthful offender be sent to a borstal institution;“…
