An Act of Parliament to amend and consolidate the law relating to advocates.

Part I – PRELIMINARY

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Advocates Act.

2. Interpretation

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requiresβ€”β€œadvocate” means any person whose name is duly entered upon the Roll of Advocates or upon the Roll of Advocates having the rank of Senior Counsel and, for the purposes of Part IX, includes any person mentioned in section 10;β€œannual licence” deleted by Act No. 9 of 2000, s. 56;β€œclient” includes any person who, as a principal or on behalf of another, or as a trustee or personal representative, or in any other capacity, has power, express or implied, to retain or employ, and retains or employs, or is about to retain or employ an advocate and any person who is or may be liable to pay to an advocate any costs…
