AN ACT of Parliament to establish Small Claims Court; to provide for the jurisdiction and procedures of the Court and for connected purposes

Part I – PRELIMINARY

1. Short title

This Act may be cited as the Small Claims Court Act, 2016.

2. Interpretation

In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires—"Adjudicator" means an Adjudicator appointed under section 5;"Chief Justice" means the Chief Justice appointed under Article 166 of the Constitution;"Chief Registrar" means the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary referred to in Article 161(2)(c) of the Constitution;"claim" means a claim lodged with the Small Claims Court in accordance with section 23;"claimant" means a person who lodges a claim with a Small Claims Court and includes any person who becomes a party to the proceedings on any claim in the capacity of a claimant;"…
