What is AI Research Chat?

AI Research Chat is an advanced conversational interface for legal research. Unlike simple search, you can have back-and-forth conversations with our AI assistant, asking follow-up questions and diving deeper into legal topics.

Getting Started

Access AI Research Chat from the main navigation or through your Assisted Research dashboard.

Starting a New Conversation

  1. Click New Chat or start typing in the input field
  2. Ask your legal research question
  3. Wait for the AI to respond with relevant information and sources

Example Questions

  • "What are the elements of negligence in Nigerian law?"
  • "How have courts interpreted 'reasonable doubt' in criminal cases?"
  • "What is the statute of limitations for contract disputes in Ghana?"
  • "Explain the doctrine of judicial precedent"

The Chat Interface

Your Messages

Your questions appear on the right side of the chat in purple bubbles. Each message shows:

  • Your question text
  • Any attached documents
  • Timestamp

AI Responses

AI responses appear on the left and include:

  • Detailed answer to your question
  • Source citations from cases and legislation
  • Related questions for further exploration

Response Progress

While the AI is working, you'll see:

  • Progress bar showing completion percentage
  • Current stage (e.g., "Searching legal database", "Generating analysis")
  • Elapsed time

Multi-Turn Conversations

Follow-Up Questions

After receiving a response, you can:

  • Ask follow-up questions for clarification
  • Request more detail on specific points
  • Explore related topics
  • Challenge or verify the AI's conclusions

The AI maintains context from your entire conversation, so you can refer back to previous answers.

Related Questions

After each response, the AI suggests related questions you might want to explore. Click any suggestion to automatically ask that question.

Source Citations

Every AI response includes citations to relevant legal sources.

Viewing Sources

Sources appear below the AI's response as clickable cards showing:

  • Case or legislation title
  • Court name (for cases)
  • Jurisdiction
  • Date

Exploring Sources

Click any source card to:

  • See more details about the source
  • Navigate directly to the full case or legislation
  • Verify the AI's interpretation

Access & Availability

AI Research Chat is available to:

  • Subscribers with active subscriptions
  • Trial users during their trial period

Trial users have a limited number of queries. Subscribe to get unlimited access.
